Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to consider such questions regarding alternate history and how aspects of the now could be different, especially when it comes to music because it is such a vast and diverse organism that is always changing due to a variety of reasons. Don’t worry! That is why we compiled a lot of helpful information and locations that we found useful in our research so that you may utilize it yourself in your research.

AllMusic has lots of good information on musical groups, historical data, discographies, and stylistic analysis. Trusted factual resource for dates, lineups, and album details.

Music’s Backpages

Archive of music journalism (1960s–present) from top critics and magazines. Contains interviews and contemporary reviews that show how groups were viewed in their time.

r/ImaginaryMusicHistory

Informal and speculative discussions among fans. Some subreddits (like r/ImaginaryMusicHistory or r/AlternateHistory) host threads such as “What if John Lennon had lived?” or “What if Queen never found Freddie Mercury?”

The AV Club

This resource will often publish retrospectives essays (e.g., “What if Nirvana hadn’t broken grunge wide open?”). Combines journalistic accuracy with creative speculation.
